a variety of stalls with friendly owners/ limited food but plenty of places nearby or take a picnic lunch
I didn't realize it was a building with consignment goods. They do seem to be repairing the outside to look more presentable.
This is an old piano factory that closed many years ago and has been converted into a mini-mall of sorts. I always end up buying stuff here when in town. Lots of great little stores with friendly people working them. Worth a visit!
This is a historic building, Used to be a piano factory...Many interesting shops under.1 roof...Antiques, collectibles, resale, coffee, clothing, museums. and more.. You can spend several hours visiting everything and have lunch while you are there..Make it a day trip and visit the shops in the downtown area of Oregon also.
This is an old piano factory refurbished into a variety of interesting shops. It is interesting to walk through with the old wood and ambience. There is a terrific coffee shop inside that also sells chocolate, biscotti, and many other items.
It used to have cute little shops in it but many of them have left. The last time I was there, there wasn't much to do or see. There is some history on the walls but not much else to do.
JMJ After visiting the Eternal Indian Statue in Oregon, IL, we asked the waitress at the Spring Valley Restaurant where else we should visit. She recommended the Conover Square and gave us the simple directions. We are not big antique hunters but the building itself was so inviting. Upon entering we discovered how fun a building it is. In the old Cable Piano Company Building, the "square" is filled with quaint stores of antiques or crafts and a very interesting Train Club. For free you can admire the set up of a large area of tracks, trains, and countryside in scale. Everyone was so friendly and eager to share their knowledge of history throughout the building. Their is a small history museum on the second floor which is also free. Being use to everything with a charge in most cities, this is an enjoyable, relaxing stop in Oregon, IL.
Nice variety of shops under one roof. We enjoyed shopping around and found some things to buy as well. We will visit again next time we're in Oregon.
I give them credit for trying. There are a few nice shops, but also a lot of junk/antiques. There is a bakery and a hot dog place. My favorite store was the DragonFly one. I wish there was more interesting history about it being an old piano factory. There are also a lot of hobbie-centered stores: pottery, jewelry, books, classic toys, etc. There is a jeweler with his shop and he really knows his stuff. If I ever had to have a piece of jewelry made I would go to him.
Every time we visit, it seems like there are fewer shops inside. Originally we were drawn to the antique shops, but the quality is dropping there. Conover Square was a great concept, but it's like going into the 1970s as far as decorating. The place needs a facelift to bring out the charm of the old building. New shops need to move in.
