Yes, we are tourists. Yes, we like this market. Why is that so bad? I like the fresh fruits and veggies and my husband likes the bakery. It's not often that we find a place we both like. We did not expect to find a lot of fresh, local items due to the season but we did find some local satsuma oranges which are some of my favorites. The strawberries were a little pricey so we passed on those this time. Oranges, little red potatoes and a pecan pie and we are good for the upcoming weekend.
There are know for there fresh fruit and vegetables But to some people like myself love there hot peach cobbler and there icecream. They have others cobbler pies there . I will let you review the others .
They are a little pricey when it comes to some of the produce, but they have some heavenly desserts!
The tomato pie is out of this world! Highly recommend stopping to pick one up on your way to the beach
This is one of my favourite stops in Loxley AL area. Great produce. Yes many tourists come but there are also locals there too...
Get great produce picked fresh every day from the fields. Large selections of home made breads, jellies, jams, fresh local honey and in the back of the market they have a small deli/bake shop. The peach cobbler aroma is drifting through out the market. You must visit this little 50's /60's shop in back.I got the chicken salad sandwich. They make the salad several different ways some has grapes some is made with nuts...... all very good and their deserts are amazing. Strawberry cheese cake, cobblers, pies, and of course ice cream. Have lunch and get your produce all one stop.
It seems like a lot of the produce is fresh.. it is kind of "hit and miss". The fresh produce is very fresh and good. If the produce is not in season, you just have to use your best judgement. Strawberries aren't in season and some of them were moldy... but the fresh produce was top notch. There is a bakery in the back. I tried the strawberry cobbler with ice cream and it was exceptionally good. Definitely worth the stop as you are leaving Gulf Shore for the ride back home.
We bought beautiful tomatoes, squash, zucchini, new potatoes, beans, peach butter, and pepper jelly. Awesome selection.
We always stop here on our trips through Alabama and Florida on I-10. The vegetables are so FRESH and good. We bought ear corn, tomatoes, and cucumbers on this visit, and they were all excellent. Wish we lived closer so we could visit on a regular basis, but we're in Houston, Texas.
We have patronized Burris for at least thirty years. In the beginning it was a true farmer's market selling local Baldwin County produce. You can still purchase locally grown, but you may also get melons from Arizona or peaches from parts unknown. If you want fresh, local produce from Burris, don't assume - ask. On the other hand, the bakery and kitchen on site are excellent.
