For me, it was fantastic to visit. Its incredible that such a statue could be erected in a small southern Minnesotan town. Just immense. It really gives you a sense of the people. Well worth a quick stop.
from ground level you can see the nice view. if you don't have a problem with heights you can climb the stairs for a small fee and really see the views
Not to many cities has something like this the view is pretty I think they do over charge a bit to climb it
The climb to the top was worth it...even with a husband who doesn't like heights. The inside "museum" was short, sweet & not overwhelming. Loved it. Wish I could have bought a t-shirt.
I wanted to see this and am glad that we went. We did not climb the stairs to the top but the inside was very informative. Learned new information that I did not know. There is a little park for children located right beside it so would be a good place for a picnic.
Fun to see the statue up close. Nice park and picnic facilities close by. Great for family reunions!
If you are in New Ulm, you should make this a stop. It is very inexpensive and only takes a little bit of time to visit the one-room museum and head up some winding stairs to a beautiful view. The monument construction characteristics are also really cool. A great find!
Great place to visit and take beautiful picture, it's the highest place in town and very interesting to visit, if you like to take beautiful pictures like me, you'll love the view!
Herman the German is a replica statue of the original in Germany. It sites on the top of a hill in a very small city park. The story of Herman the German is interesting as related on plaques. You can walk to the top for a fee and get a look at the city below. Or just look at the city below from the ground at the base of the statue for no fee.It is at best a short stop.
I stopped in New Ulm on my way to Mankato and it was well worth the stop. The monument is well taken care of and easy to find. The view of New Ulm from the monument is also great. I didn’t go to the top as my wife wanted to do so, and since she wasn’t on this trip we will have to wait until next time for that part of the experience. Even without the journey to the top, the area is a great option for a rest stop, with clean bathrooms and plenty of room for a family picnic with a view.
