what a hoot to go thru this place! lots of weird & interesting things to see. we ran into the fellow responsible for the castle & he told us he started in the 60's. his work & carvings were incredible. we walked up to it from sosua, maybe 1km. he welcomed us & told us to walk around & spend as much time as we wanted. we didn't see him on the way out so we had no one to pay admission to. it was really interesting & fun.
Spend 10 minutes, spend a few hours; it`s all up to you.Our visit was in Nov. 2014 and we were mesmerized by the art work which includedpaintings and wood and rock carvings. It was like someone had survived Dante`s Inferno and came back to describe the experience using art as a medium.Rolf, the mastermind and owner of this elaborate exhibit, was very helpful and willing to explain his "alien experiences" as well as the history of the castle. He speaks English, Spanish and German. Admission now is about $7.50 US.A little shop about a minutes walk sells quarts of cold Presidente for about $2.50 US. or about 100 pesos.Relax and enjoy!Reese from Canada
When we met our sunquest rep he did not offer this but it is a must see we found this a great hidden treasure Our rep did arrange for us to get here as it is a must do all 4 in our group enjoyed the unique carvings and the views of the surrounding area
This place is really strange, its owned by a 70 yrs old German Gentlemen, who designed the place and started building it in 1990 and finished around 2010.The art in this place is 95% made by hatians and have a heavy component of voodoo, religion, deamons and ufos.I am not really into anything of the things i saw there, honestly i was bored and googled for attractions in SOsua, let me tell you what... DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. Best thing to do in sosua is lay down at the beach and have drinks all day long. They charge around usd$8 per person.
The owner is a German ex-pat who has lived on the premises for almost 30 years. If you are keen on aliens and/or magnificent sculpture and Haitian art, this is your place. I was lucky to live beside it for a month and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the Castle and the inhabitants both. The view is incredible for photo buffs.
A really unique little museum with great views of Sosua. It's worth the short trek and $300RD (~$6.50USD) to see this one-of-a-kind museum. You'll see when you get there!
The view is incredible from the top level. There are probably 20 actual levels in the place.80 percent Haitian art & sculpture. The building looks like the Taj Mahal! REALLY!
We heard about the "UFO Museum" and with much amusement decided to check it out. We were the only people there (as it seems most of the reviewers in Tripadvisor were) and the guide ushered us around the place at at our own pace. There was a lot of artwork: paintings, sculptures and carvings. It was Haitian, Dominican and Alien! Not sure if the alien art was done by the aliens or in order to attract them to the place. Apparently they have visited several times! Don't miss the UFOs (you can't anyway). Not sure what people were complaining about with the pornography but if you know anything about Haitian art that should have been no surprise. You might want to blindfold the kids on the 3rd (?) floor for a couple of large wood carvings there but other than that nothing too shocking. We did get to meet Rolf the creator of all this (I think he may never leave the building). He is in the process of building new platforms for new additions to his collection. All in all, while not a culturally important experience, it was fun and if you are in Sosua anyway & want a break from the beach it might be worth a try. Some of the carvings were quite impressive and the view from the roof was nice. BE SURE to take a flashlight(torch) for the crypt, we practically wore out the flash on the camera trying to see what was in there as it's pitch black in places.
You can see the art museum/castle at the top of the hill. It cost 300 pesos each for a tour. Definitely worth the money. It has artwork everywhere. The amazing sculptures, paintings, wood and rock carvings fill every level. The owner has built it for the alien visitors - the "sun angels" and keeps adding more. It takes at least an hour to see the whole thing and is well worth the effort. The view from the top of the castle is breathtaking
The building is cool and definitely worth seeing but overall it was really weird. Some of the art was interesting, some pornographic. Rolf, the owner is a big believer in extra terrestrial visitation and is visited regularly (according to him). Eventually though, I just got a vibe that made me really uncomfortable, I couldn't get out fast enough and that's what I did.
